I agree with you that observable facts matter, and I am not disputing reality. My point was also one of relevance. My sex may be relevant in some circumstances and it is a reality that cannot be changed; the fact that I was married ten years ago often is not relevant. Why should a past marital status continue to define how I am categorised on forms when it has no meaningful bearing on my present life? And why should my ex-partner be involved at all?
