Dear John,

What conditions for peace would Hamas accept in a treaty with Israel?

You mentioned that Netanyahu should have immediately sued for peace ofter the terrorist atrocity on 7th October. You suggested that he should have followed Jesus in turning the other cheek.

But whom should the Israelis approach in pursuit of such as peace? Hamas?? Doesn't Hamas promote a pretty song about a River and the Sea, and being Free? Aren't they intent on the eradication of Israel?

Surely any individual, or group of individuals, has the right to defend itself?

You seem to suggest that the problem to be solved is Israel's hostility against its Arab neighbours. But as we heard from your Coory interview, Israel, under different leaders (including Netanyahu), has been serially successful in agreeing and sustaining peace treaties with neighbours. Evidently, what is different this time is not Netanyahu, as you seem to suggest, nor the people of Gaza, but the theocratic ideologists, Hamas

I feel it has been a mistake to promote intervention in a foreign war, particularly one in which a nation, Israel, is being forced to defend itself against an enemy that declares it will never agree to Israel's continued existence.
